Betrayal At Blackthorn Park

This is the first time I've read a Julia Kelly book and it will not be the last. What a great book! The author captivated my attention from the very beginning and it continued to the very end. The storyline was great and the characters were very well written.  You can't go wrong with reading "Betrayal at Blackthorn Park". It has it all, mystery, suspense, and a great time period.

Meddling with Mistletoe

"Meddling with Mistletoe" by Liz Johnson is a great holiday book.  As you read this book you will probably think about what an amazing holiday movie for the hallmark channel this would make.  This book has it all romance, humor and family. I really loved all the characters and the storyline. The book was a very easy read and made you feel like you were right there. The main two characters were great!  Whitney has a dream and what will she to achieve it. Daniel is a lonely man with past hurts. Will the mistletoe bring them together!

Death by Misadventure

Death by Misadventure is the first book I've read in the "A Lady Emily Mystery"  series.

Synopsis - In the winter of 1906, Lady Emily and husband Colin are invited to Baroness Ursula Von Duchtel in the Belgian alps. Outside you are able to see the beautiful castle of mad King Ludwig. Inside the villa host a magnificent but eclectic art collection as well as as the other guests. There is a musician, an art dealer and Kaspar the Baroness son-in-law, who it appeared that someone was trying to kill. You will also return forty years earlier to the life of Niels a German lord, who loves to sing and who is friends with King Ludwig.

My thoughts - I found the book to be wonderfully written mystery that has several twist and turns that kept me engaged throughout the book. The descriptions of the mountains with the snow and icicles brought back beautiful image's of when I was there.  I loved seeing the development of the character's and how the mystery unfolded.  I have always been fascinated by the story of King Ludwig and seeing this part of the story gave me insight to what his life could've been like.

I highly recommend "Death by Misadventure"

The Cage and the Safehouse

I have to say that I've never read a book by this author. I thought I would jump out there a give the books a try!  I enjoyed the storyline in both books, but I'm not much for the sex details.  I think the book would have been great, but with less sex.

Serenity's Secret

I know every time I pick up one of Lisa Jones Baker book's I will be captivated from the first page to the last.  Serenity Secret is no different.

Synopsis - Serenity Miller has much to love about life as the owner of the Pink Petal and learning about natural remedies and a love for garage sales.  Then there is when her neighbor Stephen Lantz saved her.

Quote - "That sometimes things happen, and we have no idea why. But Gott does. He's omniscient. He knows our entire life story, including the ending, and we're to trust His plan.

Thoughts - There are so many positive things about this book. You see the relationship between Serenity and Stephen blossom from a deep friendship to a love for each other even though Serenity could never allow it to happen.  You will see how they overcome adversity and put their faith in God. The characters are well written and the story flows nicely.  I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a great Christian book.

Rating - 5 out of 5

Shield of the mighty

There is nothing better than reading a book that pulls you in from the very beginning! "Shield of the Mighty" by Connilyn Cossette does exactly that.

Synopsis - Captred by the Philistines as a young boy Zevi has grown into a formidable warrior. He is on a mission as captain in King Sauls army to recruit soldiers, and find talented artisans for the king court. He returns to the town that sent him away after his parent died. The town decided not to sign up to fight for Saul.

Yochana is a widow who is very skilled at making perfume and healing medicine. She is mesmerized by a stranger who walks into her shop. That is till she realized he's there to recruit men to go to war.  She lost her husband to war!

Thoughts - I have to say that I love the way this author intertwined the story with the biblical time of Sauls reign. You see how Zevi is trying to overcome the pains of his past and protect a town that will not support the war. Then there is Yochana and her pain of losing her husband. Will Zevi and Yochana be able to overcome their past and look to the future. This a great love story!
